Need Is Nonexistent
Need Is Nonexistent

Need is non-existent in the Universe. One needs something only if one requires a particular result. The Universe does not require a particular result. The Universe is the result.

On this day of your life, dear friend,

On this day of your life, dear friend, I believe God wants you to know...

....that the goodness in your life does not come to you

from someone else. When you see this, you will be free.

There is no reason and no need to "play up" to another,

or to try to remain in their good graces. Remain in your

own, by not betraying yourself. Simply speak your truth,

with gentleness and love.

And have courage, for what you seek is not outside of

you. It is not a gift from another person. It is yours -- to

give, not to acquire. Let no one, therefore, hold you

hostage. Not your partner, not your boss, not your

family...and certainly not your God.

You know right now exactly why you received this

message today.

WHAT IS OUR LIFE'S PURPOSE?
WHAT IS OUR LIFE'S PURPOSE?

A few weeks ago I met a bewildered woman. She was a successful civil servant in her forties who was waking up to her spirituality and had begun to attend some psychic development classes.

'I just don't know what I'm supposed to be doing with my life,' she said. 'I don't seem to have a purpose.'

We started to have a conversation and it turned out that she had a family and was a senior manager in social services. She was a good person and she was doing good. But she now thought that being psychic and having clairvoyant experiences was the only meaningful way of living. She had stopped valuing her role as a carer, manager and parent. She was temporarily enchanted by the illusion that psychic experiences were more meaningful than being of service.

This reminded me of an old friend who once confessed that he was envious of my being a spiritual teacher and workshop leader. He himself was a financier with a sumptuous life style and I asked what it was about my life that he envied, expecting him to say that it was because my work was congruent with my soul or that it helped me to be centered. Instead, he started to describe how he saw my life as being a bit like a pop or movie star, with status and glamour. That, he felt, would bring him real satisfaction.

I winced with embarrassment. My model of a good spiritual teacher is not someone who is successful or well known, but someone who is quiet and hidden. I love the stories of the great Muslim mystics, the Sufi Masters, who work as cobblers and bakers. To find them, you have to look for the most invisible person in the crowd.

LIFE'S PURPOSE

People are always trying to work out what they should be doing with their lives. But the more I look at this idea of having a 'life's purpose' the more I think and feel that it is an illusion.  Let me risk a wide-sweeping generalisation.

Everyone's life purpose is the same.

Our purpose is to develop our compassion and consciousness until finally, in every single cell, we are completely and totally loving, awake and of benefit to all living beings.
Full stop.

One hundred per cent compassionate and conscious in every fibre of our being.

No buts or ifs. No waiting until we have found the right career. Being awake and compassionate is The Career!

Everybody knows this. It is at the core of all spiritual traditions.

So why is it that we so often get lost and confused and think we do not know our life's purpose — when, in fact, we do know it?

SIX IDEAS

So here are six thoughts that help me and may be of use to you too.

One — When something gives us pleasure, our basic survival instinct for self-gratification drives us to wanting more of it. So if we enjoy imagining a different type of life, we will start to desire the actual thing. Imagination and desire are normal parts of being human. Unfortunately, as the Buddha so helpfully reminded us, desire is the source of all suffering and a destructive emotion. So enjoy daydreaming about other possibilities, but don't get hooked in by actually desiring them.

Two — Spiritual growth is not easy because we have to meet our wounded psychological selves in order to heal and integrate them - and this can be painful. Not surprisingly we have an instinct to avoid this pain, but this avoidance can then lead us away from true spiritual development. We look for easy solutions and 'finding our life's purpose' is an easy sounding solution, like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The way forward here is courage and realism about the spiritual journey.

Three — Our brains are genetically hardwired to understand life through stories that have a plot and a conclusion. The basic story is hunt, gather, eat and survive. Ambiguous stories cause us anxiety. (How do you feel when you only know three quarters of a story?) We are therefore impatient to understand the plot and the ending of our own life stories. Again, we may look for simple solutions and reject the ambiguities of paradox, unknowing and mystery. The trick is to learn how to be and accept all of life's conundrums.

Four — We all carry personal and collective karma, which can create almost unbearable feelings of negativity. Like infants we want the comfort and gratification that might come with success and material fulfilment. But no amount of success or riches from the right 'career' will deliver satisfaction. Only through building a strong centre and learning the skills of self-healing will these internal hungry ghosts be integrated.

Five — Then there is a sense of being stifled and having creative talents that need to be fulfilled. Dealing with these feelings is a life art. There are no easy answers.  Sometimes we need to explode and release ourselves into something new. Other times, we need patience and careful experimentation. And often we just need to accept that we are perfectly fine the way that we are.

Six — And then there is the great illusion that once we have achieved our life's purpose and are in the right 'career' we will feel fulfilled and content. But we are not islands. Is it possible to feel fulfilled when fellow creatures are still suffering? Are personal purpose and personal fulfilment inherently self-centred? It is probably more realistic to stay with the core message of Christ and with the Vow of the Bodhissatva Buddhas. This Vow states: We shall not rest until every being is liberated from suffering.

So here then is the possible life purpose for all of us — to become fully awake and compassionate; and to strive until all beings are free of suffering. Each in our own unique way, each in our own everyday lives.

All my love.

On Knowing God
On Knowing God

The only way to move forward on this is to ask yourself, "What would happen if everything I thought was 'wrong' was actually 'right'?" Every great scientist knows about this. When what a scientist does is not working, a scientist sets aside all of the assumptions and starts over. All great discoveries have been made from a willingness, and ability, to not be right. And that's what's needed here.

You cannot know God until you've stopped telling yourself that you already know God. You cannot hear God until you stop thinking that you've already heard God.

I cannot tell you My Truth until you stop telling Me yours

What Is Love?
What Is Love?

It is an experience of oneness, of unity, where there is no separation, where separation is unthinkable. The idea of duality becomes the illusion and the idea of oneness becomes the reality.

This is the ultimate reality. This is the way things really are. You are not separate from each other and you never have been. Love is the human urging to prove that, and to experience it.

Project-Peace on Earth represents a daring idea to transform global consciousness, systematically end hunger and related diseases, empower those in extreme poverty, and provide food, clothing, shelter, safety and education for tens of millions of children worldwide. Proceeds generated from the live Concert telethon will be immediately used to address pressing issues of hunger, poverty, shelter, health, and the safety of children worldwide.  Use of these proceeds will be tracked through a weekly Reality TV series called “Project - Peace on Earth”. This Extreme Village Make-Over TV show will feature a celebrity host and/or philanthropist, supported by a team comprised of experts in the fields of science and technology, medicine, education, fundraising and logistics, construction, business, and international politics.  All together, they will engage in a 7 day humanitarian effort to make real progress toward meeting these issues of food, clothing, shelter, safety, education, and economic sustainability.

Liver Cleanse

Liver Cleanse
I have just done a big winter detox and am feeling physically wonderful. Since my early twenties I have had an instinct for a clean diet, but I also have a compulsive side with a wicked history. So before I cleaned up, through my teens into my thirties, I enjoyed enough cigarettes, drugs and alcohol to last several life times. Then in my forties I began to experience hip arthritis and became concerned about that whole lower abdominal area because my father had died of colon cancer. I did my first colon cleanse, which immediately cured the hip pain and also made my complexion cleaner and clearer.

I enjoyed the final colonic flush because as the old faecal matter in the lower intestine (which is similar to a nostril) released, I tranced out and experienced myself as a bitter old woman ejecting a foetus that had been festering within me for years after I had been raped by a filthy medieval soldier. Enjoyable, terrible stuff.

Twice a year now I also do a liver cleanse, which releases bile from the liver. That phrase releases bile says it all. If there is stuff clogging up your liver it not only damages your immune system and longevity, it is also irritating. Physically and psychologically irritating. So it is useful to flush it out regularly. I use a classic strategy which takes seven days.

If you have any concerns or caution about doing it, then don’t. You may also want to consult your medical doctor first too.

So here is the process that many of my friends and I use. It is simple and effective.

Ingredients Needed: 6-12 litres organic apple juice, Golden Seal tincture, Black Walnut Hull tincture, 2 organic grapefruit, organic olive oil, Epsom Salts.

Days 1-6: Clean up your diet a bit. Don’t overeat. If you can, avoid dairy, wheat, sugar, stimulants, red meat … the usual stuff.

Every morning before breakfast, drink a glass of warm water. 15 minutes later swallow a tablespoon of organic olive oil mixed with a tablespoon of fresh lemon juice. Wait 20 minutes before eating anything else.

At some point during the day take 10 drops of golden seal in water. Every day throughout the day drink 1-
2 litres of organic apple juice.
(All of this softens the stones and opens up the bile ducts.)

Day 6: Don’t eat anything after 2pm. You may drink water.

Around
6pm: mix 4 tablespoons of Epsom Salts (these used to be called ‘liver salts’) with 3 cups of water in a suitable container. This makes 4 servings of ¾ of a cup (185mls). Drink your first serving now. This will taste a bit bitter.

Around
8pm: drink your next ¾ cup of the Epsom Salts. The Epsom Salts will flush through you, usually triggering dramatic bowel movements.

Around
10pm: squeeze 2 fresh organic grapefruit (pink is good) to make ¾ cup of juice and mix in ½ a cup of best organic olive oil. Add to this 10 drops of Black Walnut Hull Tincture which acts as an internal disinfectant. Put all this in a container you can shake.

Get ready to go to bed. You may need to visit the bathroom a few times as the Epsom Salts pass through your bowels. Now stand by your bed and shake the container with the grapefruit juice and olive oil until it is well mixed. Standing up, drink it all down. (It may sound disgusting but the two main ingredients harmonise well and it goes down easily.)

Lie down immediately flat on your back and relax. Have a kind and compassionate attitude towards your body, especially towards your liver. Impressions and images may arise. Watch, breathe and enjoy. Go the bathroom when you need to. And sleep well.

Day 7: Between 6 and 7am have your third ¾ cup of Epsom Salts. Rest.

Between 8 and
9am have your last ¾ cup of Epsom Salts. Rest. You may experience some headaches and discomfort during and immediately after the whole process, but this is completely normal during any detox.

With all your bowel movements you may want to take a torch into the bathroom to see what you are expelling. You will see gallstones floating and sinking, ranging in colour from white to green to brown, as well as a white foam of tiny cholesterol crystals.

If you discharge a very large quantity of stones and pellets, this is a sure indication that you need to do the process again. The timing is up to you. I would suggest, at earliest, after three months. What you want to see finally is a liver flush in which hardly anything comes out, after which you just do a liver flush as an occasional process.

The result of this? A healthy liver, stronger immune system, better mood.

All my love, a squeaky clean William
