Free e-newsletter

From Rachael Hertogs

Archive newsletters can be found at http://angel-healing.tripod.com

Hi ,

This months newsletter is mostly aimed at women, (sorry guys, but I’m sure there’s still a few snippets of goodness in here for you too! Maybe you could pass this on to any women in your life who may appreciate it!) I’ve got herbal tips for PMS and an invite to a Red Tent Day – this has come out of MENSTRUAL MONDAY- an initiative that began a few years ago in the US. Since my visit there last year I’ve kept in touch with many women who work in the field of women’s health, menstruation, menarche etc and I love the idea of women all over the world gathering to create  red tents (or moon lodges) and connecting with one another.

I’m also running some Reiki II review sessions aimed at students who need to reconnect with their peers and fulfil their requirements.(see below)

I’ve been promoting my Moon Times products business this month: Aspire magazine honoured Moon Times with  their Eco Product Award which was fab, I was featured in last weeks local paper, the Evening Post and  I was interviewed on the BBC Bristol Radio show ‘Girls Night In’ (Listen here- only on line for 1 week!!

click on 'girls night in!')

So you can see why I’m rather saturated in ‘women’s issues’ at the moment!

By the way, If you've got time, please do vote for Moon Times for the Baby Groe Magazine awards- see http://www.babygroe.co.uk/public/misc/surveydetails.aspx?id=23

Also in this months newsletter- watch the Moses Code on Line for only £3! Its similar to The Secret…I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

And as usual there’s some events listed, networking section, an affirmation and inspirational quote- enjoy!

Much love and many blessings,

Rachael xxx

Red Tent Day

Sunday 4th May 11-4pm drop in any time

Boiling Wells Project, St Werburghs

(down Boiling Wells lane, through the tunnel and right!)

Join us as we connect with women world wide who are putting up red tents and moon lodges to honour our womanhood and our cycles! Bring books, altar items, candles, herb teas, food to share, wear red! There will be a red tent/moon lodge space to sit, be, talk, ask questions, share stories….the day will end with a simple ceremony.

Why have a red tent day? To create a sense of fun around menstruation, to encourage women to take charge of their menstrual and reproductive health, to create greater visibility of menstruation, to enhance honesty about menstruation in our relationships…

Some therapies will be happening in the barn (for a small donation) and we will be joined by some Women’s Health Advocates; Anita Bennett, Dominique Sakoilsky and Nicho Wooding

How To Dance In The Rain

It was a busy morning, about
8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 8 0's , arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am
.

I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him.  I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound.

On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.

While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. T he gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife.

I inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease. As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him, 'And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?'

He smiled as he patted my hand and said, 'She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is.'

I had to hold back tears as he left, I had the goose bumps on my arm, and thought, 'That is the kind of love I want in my life.'

True love is neither physical, nor romantic. True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and wi ll not be.

With all the jokes and fun that is in e-mails, sometimes there is one that comes along that has an important message. This one I thought I could share with you.

The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.

'Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.'

Tips: for PMS

Ten Tips for Women with PMS
©
1998 Susun S. Weed

Water retention, mood swings, sore breasts, and indigestion are problems experienced by many women in the week preceeding menstruation. Here are a few tips from Susun Weed's best-selling book, NEW Menopausal Years the Wise Woman Way (Alternatives for Women 30- 90) to help ease these discomforts.

To relieve water retention
1) 10-20 drops of dandelion root tincture in a cup of water with meals and before bed.
2) A strong infusion (one ounce of dried herb in a quart of boiling water, brewed overnight) of the common weed, stinging nettle, not only relieves, but also helps prevent further episodes of water retention. Weed says she drinks a cup or more of this infusion daily whenever she wants to nourish her kidneys and adrenals.

To moderate mood swings
3) Tincture of the flowering tops of fresh motherwort is a favourite calmative of herbalist Weed. She uses 5-10 drops in a small amount of water as a dose, which she repeats as needed, sometimes as frequently as 3-4 times an hour, until the desired effect is achieved. "I never feel drugged or groggy or out-of-it when I use motherwort to help me calm down," she says.
4) For women who consistently feel rage premenstrually, Weed uses 20-30 drops of motherwort tincture twice a day for a month to help stabilize moods and urges the woman to take a moon day -- one day right before or at the start of the menstrual flow which is set aside for you and you alone.
5) One or more cups of an infusion of the herb oatstraw (the grass of the plant that gives us oatmeal) helps the nerves calm down and provides a rich source of minerals known to soothe frazzeled emotions.

To relieve congestion and tenderness in the breasts
6) 20-30 drops of the tincture of cleavers, another common weed, works wonders. This plant, also called "goose grass" was used as a black tea substitute by the colonists. The dose may be repeated every hour or up to 6 times a day.
7) Women who get a lot of calcium and magnesium from their diet (leafy greens, yogurt, and many herbs are rich in these minerals) have less breast tenderness. Increase the minerals in your diet with a cup or more of red clover/mint infusion daily.
8)Large cabbage leaves, steamed whole until soft, and applied as warm as tolerable, can be used as a soothing compress on breasts which are sore and swollen.

To relieve digestive distress
9) A daily doses of 1 teaspoonful/5ml yellow dock root vinegar.
10) A cup of yogurt in the morning (buy it plain and add fruit at home) replaces gut flora and insures easy digestion all day long.

In May I'll be doing a gong bath at the Pierian Centre - Wednesday 28 May, 7.30, cost £10 - please let me know if you'd like to come to this, as space is limited.

I'm still at the Pierian Centre on Fridays to offer one to one relaxation / hypnotherapy sessions - and until the end of May one session is half price with the Pierian programme (usually £40).  As usual, you can also meet me for an initial consultation to explore how I can help you without charge.
